A former student of Ansel Adams and a professor of physics at the
University of San Francisco, Clifton Albergotti combines aspects
of both experiences when approaching his own photography. He has a
true respect and awe of what can be found in nature, and is a
gifted photographer in the traditional sense. Soon however, Cliff
found that photos taken in the traditional way stopped short of
recreating his entire experience and that an “emotional truth” was
his ultimate goal. “In physics, one looks for mathematical
regularities revealing hidden order in apparent chaos. Similarly,
when I’m looking at a scene to shoot, I’m thinking there might be
an interesting pattern that I can bring out with my photograph.”
Cliff achieves his ultimate goal by expertly combining and
manipulating several images, blending them seamlessly into a
nearly surreal landscape while the use of unconventional sizes and
formats intimately pulls the viewer in deeper by saturating the
peripherals.
